It can feel unfair when you want to move into an apartment and your landlord says “No Pets Allowed”. Your dog is calm, trained, and barely makes a sound, yet the landlord still insists.
In most cases, the rule is not personal.
Landlords worry about potential damage, extra cleaning, noise complaints, and allergies for future tenants. Even well behaved pets can cause wear and tear that is expensive to fix sometimes.
There is also the issue of consistency. Once one tenant is allowed to keep a pet, it becomes harder to say no to others. This can create management challenges, especially in shared buildings.
Understanding these concerns does not mean tenants should stay silent. Open conversations, pet agreements, or additional deposits can sometimes help bridge the gap.
Overall, Pet policies are usually about risk, not dislike or personal discretion.
