How To Politely Tell Your Tenant “Please Stop Spoiling My House”
Share:

Every landlord reaches this moment eventually.

You notice the sink is clogged again. The wall has new marks. The door hinge sounds tired. Nothing is completely destroyed, but everything feels slightly mistreated. You want to scream, but you also want peace.

This is where polite communication matters.

Most tenants do not wake up planning to damage a property. Many simply do not realize when careless habits start turning into costly repairs. The goal is not just confrontation. The goal is for correction.

Start with facts, not emotions. Instead of accusing, describe what you have observed. A calm message explaining the issue and why it matters often works better than threats or frustration. For example, saying “I noticed the sink keeps blocking and it may lead to bigger plumbing issues” sounds very different from “You are spoiling my house.”

Set clear expectations too going forward. Remind tenants what is acceptable and what needs attention, especially around maintenance and care. When boundaries are clear, behavior improves.

Respectful communication protects your property and your sanity. A polite message today can save you major repairs tomorrow.
